Offense stalls in Mizzou softball’s 2-1 loss to Alabama
Abby Carr’s solo HR was not enough as the Tide hit two of their own
Mizzou softball is so close to an SEC win they can practically taste it. But it wouldn’t come on Friday, falling to Alabama in the opening game of the series 2-1. Abby Carr hit a solo shot as the only Tiger run, but it was not enough to overcome two solo home runs by the Tide.
Marissa McCann started the game in the circle for Mizzou. She ended the day pitching four innings, allowing two runs, three hits and striking out three. But her big kryptonite was the two solo home runs, allowing Alabama to put up runs on one swing.
“She was competitive,” head coach Larrisa Anderson said. “She made a mistake to [Brooke] Wells as one of the best hitters in the country, so I would love to be able to have that ball back. ” The offense finished the game with three hits, two of which came in the first inning.
The Tigers had a stretch of five consecutive innings without a hit as Alabama pitcher Jocelyn Briski sat down the Mizzou batters over and over. “She’s an All-American Pitcher. She averages almost 12 strikeouts a game,” Anderson said.
