Washington softball wins 14th straight in 9-7 victory over Michigan

The Washington Huskies earned a 9-7 win over the Michigan Wolverines on Friday in a back-and-forth contest to kick off their first road series of Big Ten play in Ann Arbor and run their winning streak to 14 straight games. Coach Heather Tarr's team has been able to rely on its ace, sophomore Morgan Reimer , in the circle all season, but the Wolverines touched her up a little on Friday. The Team Canada standout still earned the win to improve to 15-1 on the season after working 4-plus innings before she was relieved by Sophia Ramuno.

Reimer let up 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits and a walk with 3 strikeouts in her first outing this season where she surrendered more than 2 earned runs. While the Huskies had a good day at the plate, the biggest separator in the game came on a throwing error from third baseman Maddie Erickson in the top of the sixth inning with the bases loaded, which plated a pair of runs for the Huskies to give them some breathing room down the stretch. After coming in with runners on first and third and no outs in the fifth inning, Ramuno was able to limit the damage, letting up 2 runs on 3 hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts over 3 innings of work to earn her first save of the season.

Third baseman Giselle Alvarez chipped in with 2 hits, a pair of RBIs, and a run scored, while at the top of the lineup, freshman Kaycie Burdick and star sophomore Alexis DeBoer had identical stat lines, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Gabby Ellis took the loss for the Wolverines after working 3 innings and allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits with 4 walks and a strikeout.
