HERSHEY, Pennsylvania, March 20 — The Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast [Drexel Hill, PA] Friars finally earned their first state championship in boys basketball, claiming Pennsylvania's PIAA Class 5A state championship.
They did it in style, too, breaking open a close game against the West York Area [York, PA] Bulldogs before pulling away for a commanding 62-35 win. West York led the game, 23-22, at halftime before falling behind in the third quarter, but it was still just a two-possession game at the end of the third quarter with Bonner-Prendergast in front, 35-29. But a 27-6 fourth quarter turned the game into a one-sided affair barely halfway through the fourth quarter, and the Friars won going away by the time the final buzzer sounded.
The championship came in the school's second title game appearance and first since 2019.
