Should the New York Jets pivot to Joe Flacco or Tyrod Taylor in their search for a backup quarterback?

The New York Jets remain on the hunt for a veteran backup quarterback. General manager Darren Mougey acquired Geno Smith, reuniting him with the Jets to be the starting quarterback in 2026. The expectation is that the organization wants an experienced No.

2 behind him. One of the rumored options was Carson Wentz, largely due to his connections to new offensive coordinator Frank Reich from their shared time together with the Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts. Earlier this week, Wentz decided to re-sign with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Jets' search goes on. Two of the available veteran options in free agency are Joe Flacco and Tyrod Taylor. Taylor was the Jets' backup in 2025, making six appearances in place of an injured (or inconsistent) Justin Fields.

The experienced backup is still performing like an adequate No. 2 option. Flacco is another familiar option.
