Marcus and Joey Blaze, both alums of the high school in northwest Ohio outside of Toledo, are competing at the NCAA Wrestling Championships, and they're doing so after having gotten to watch from afar as Perrysburg made history. The Yellow Jackets had never won a team state title in boys sports. That's what they achieved Sunday in Columbus at the OHSAA Division I state wrestling championships.
And to do it, they ended national powerhouse St. Edward's 10-year streak of team state titles in D-I. That set the stage for two of Perrysburg's most famous alums on the mat to try and make noise in Cleveland at the NCAA tourney.
Marcus wrestles for Penn State, where he's into the semifinals on Friday night at 133 pounds. He gets a rematch with Ohio State's Ben Davino, with the pair having split during the season. The other 133-pound semifinal is Oklahoma State's Jax Forrest and Virginia Tech's Aaron Seidel.
