UFC champion Tom Aspinall shares training footage: 'Back to it'
It appears Tom Aspinall has been cleared for a return to training after the UFC champ shared a video montage working out in the gym.
Tom Aspinall shared a positive signal about his fighting future Friday with some new training footage. The UFC heavyweight champion has been sidelined since October, when he suffered a devastating eye injury at the hands of Ciryl Gane during their UFC 321 title fight. Aspinall (15-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC) could not continue after eye pokes from the challenger, and the bout was ruled a no contest .
Aspinall has revealed the severity of his eye injuries in the months since, including multiple surgeries. He, at points, expressed uncertainty about his future, but recently things have taken a positive turn. After signing with boxing promoter Eddie Hearn as management earlier this month, Aspinall expressed more certainty about his comeback.
Now, he has shared footage of himself working out with captions that included "back to it" and "coming for it all. Former two-division titleholder Alex Pereira (13-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) will move to heavyweight to fight Gane (13-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) for the interim title at UFC Freedom 250 on June 14 from the White House, setting the stage for Aspinall's next foe.
