The Red Devils' captain banked two assists in United's 3-1 victory over Aston Villa, bringing him to 16 in the league for 2025-26. Fernandes' current total of 16 assists is double that of his closest competitor - Manchester City's Rayan Cherki - and has brought his total assists to 100 in all competitions for United.

It has put the Portuguese in contention to break the record for most provided in a season. So, how likely is he to do it? What is the Premier League record for assists in one season?

Thierry Henry registered 20 for Arsenal in 2002-03, as well as scoring 24 goals. Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne then recorded 20 assists of his own during the 2019-20 Premier League campaign.

Fernandes has eight games remaining to notch five more assists and break the record. It took him until the eighth week of the season to register an assist and has maintained an assist-per-game ratio of 0. 8 since then.
