Where is Hofstra located?
Speedy Claxton is the first coach to take Hofstra to the NCAA Tournament since Jay Wright 25 years ago. So where is the Pride located?
Speedy Claxton has cemented his legacy as a Hofstra University legend even beyond his playing days with the Pride (nee Flying Dutchmen, in honor of school funder and namesake William Hofstra). The two-time America East player of the year won an NBA title with the San Antonio Spurs in 2003. Now he's back in New York, coaching his former team in an arena in which his retired number hangs from the rafters.
Claxton has led the Pride to at least 20 wins in four of his five seasons at the helm. Despite a solid resume, 2026 marks his first trip to the NCAA Tournament as a coach -- and Hofstra's first since 2001, when Jay Wright was a rising young star set to make the jump to Villanova. Hofstra can gloss over 25 frustrating years with a Cinderella run that begins with a matchup against four seed Alabama Friday afternoon.
They've got a legitimate shot to knock off an uneven Crimson Tide team. We'd better figure out where the Pride's campus is. Hofstra is located in Hempstead, New York Hempstead is on Long Island, about 25 miles east of Manhattan and 15 miles east of fellow NCAA Tournament participant St.
John's University. Despite being classified as a town, nearly 800,000 people live in the 120 square miles of land that make up Hempstead. This article originally appeared on For The Win: Where is Hofstra located as Pride play in March Madness?
