[Getty Images] West Bromwich Albion defender Krystian Bielik has undergone surgery on his shoulder and could miss the remainder of the season, boss James Morrison has confirmed. The Pole missed the past two league games after to go off in their match against Sheffield United on 7 March. "He has been pushing it and he felt a bit more damage so we thought it best he get the surgery," Morrison told BBC Radio WM.
"We are hoping he might get back but we will have to wait and see when he gets reassessed. " Goalkeeper Max O'Leary has also been ruled out of the game at Bristol City, his former club, on Saturday (15:00 GMT) after picking up a calf injury in their game against Hull City last weekend. The Ireland international joined the Baggies from The Robins in January.
Defender Chris Mepham, though, is recovering well from his hamstring injury and will be ready to make a return after the international break. The squad also have some good long-term news after Albion chose to trigger the option to extend midfielder Ousmane Diakite's contract by a further year until 2027. "He epitomises what we want in the squad," Morrison added.
"He does his job, does it to 100%. Rolls his sleeves up, if he makes a mistake he goes again. "He's a joy to work with.
