Georgia Tech hires Troy's Scott Cross as men's basketball coach
March 20 (UPI) -- The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets named Troy's Scott Cross as their new men's basketball coach, athletic director Ryan Alpert announced Friday. Cross led the Trojans to a 125-99Given record over the last seven seasons, including a 22-12 mark in 2025-26. He has an overall record of 350-260 over 19 seasons as a college coach.
"I am truly honored and humbled to be named the head coach of Georgia Tech men's basketball," Cross said in a news release. "I want to thank president Angel Cabrera and director of athletics Ryan Alpert for their belief and trust in me and my vision for this program. "We will build a culture defined by discipline, toughness and accountability.
Our players will represent Georgia Tech with pride, compete relentlessly and embrace the responsibility that comes with wearing the jersey. "This is a program with a proud tradition, a world-class institution and a passionate fan base. I'm excited to get to work.
" The Yellow Jackets fired coach Damon Stoudamire on March 8 after an 11-20 campaign. They were 42-55, with no NCAA tournament appearances, in three seasons under Stoudamire. The Yellow Jackets were 109-114, with one tournament appearance, under Josh Pastner, who served as coach from 2016-17 through 2022-23.
They haven't made the tournament in consecutive seasons since 2003-04 and 2004-05, when they were coached by Paul Hewitt. "We're thrilled to name Scott Cross the 16th head coach in Georgia Tech men's basketball history," Alpert said. "Coach Cross is a proven winner with 350 career victories and seven conference championships on his resume.
