D. , long-term injuries to UND's top two centers in 2022 sparked a position change. Olson swapped sides of the ball from defensive line to offensive line at the request of former head coach Bubba Schweigert, developing into a difference-maker at guard and quickly emerging as a team leader.

Now, Olson is trying to embrace a new role — leading from the sidelines as he recovers from a foot injury that caused him to miss nearly the entire 2025 season. As spring ball opens at the Pollard Center, Olson remains sidelined as he works back from a foot injury suffered late in the first half of UND's 38-35 loss in the 2025 season opener at Kansas State. "It was a pass play, a defender got tripped and a helmet landed right on my foot," Olson said of the play.
