This loss might be the final straw in Hubert Davis' head coaching career in Chapel Hill . The Tar Heels (24-9, 12-6 ACC) carried a 19-point lead just five minutes into the second half – and showed no signs of slowing down. Slowly but surely, the Atlantic 10 Champion Rams (28-7, 15-3 A-10) chipped away.
Terrence Hill Jr. , who anchored VCU's comeback and finished with a career-high 34 points, forced overtime on his layup with 11 seconds left in regulation. Hill nailed a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left, giving the Rams an 80-78 lead they never relinquished.
North Carolina didn't make a single field goal in overtime, with Seth Trimble scoring his team's lone three points on free throws. UNC shot just 60 percent from the charity stripe, another defining factor in its third-straight loss. There's no other way to say it – the Tar Heels beat themselves.
