LSU Takes Game One of Oklahoma Series Behind Casan Evans’ 15 Strikeouts

Yahoo Sports

Welcome back, Mr. Evans

Now that’s more like it. LSU (16-7, 2-2) took game one of a key early-season series against #8 Oklahoma (17-5, 2-2) 7-1 thanks to their Friday night ace looking like a Friday night ace. Casan Evans pitched his best game as a Tiger since dominating in Omaha: a career-best 7.

2 innings and 15 Ks against three hits, one walk and one unearned run. “Casan is a tremendous pitcher and a tremendous competitor,” Jay Johnson said. “I don’t think we’ve lost too many games when he’s taken the mound for us.

He’s an absolute winner, one of the best pitchers in the country, and what’s awesome is the best is yet to come for him. ” Evans was awesome, there’s no other way to put it. He worked quick, he was still sitting 95 even after 110 pitches, and at one point struck out five straight batters.

The 15 strikeouts are the most by an LSU pitcher in an SEC game since that Paul Skenes fella did it against Auburn. Evans pitched opposite of former Tiger Cam Johnson and in his first game back in Baton Rouge, Johnson looked like…well, Cam Johnson. Johnson only recorded four outs but not before he was lifted after walking six Tigers, hitting another, and threw a wild pitch.
