Defensive line remains the biggest issue for the Vikings
The Vikings have to address some missing pieces on the defensive line with what time is left in the offseason.
The Vikings have had to make some tough decisions this offseason as they moved on from general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and his past roster moves. Some of those moves included some overspending, and as the team found themselves in a tight space in terms of salary cap, they had to make some wiggle room. They achieved that by letting go of some big contracts, but two of the biggest were along the defensive line in Jonathan Allen and Jalen Hargrove.
As a result, the Vikings have some needs along the defensive line that need to be addressed. ESPN pointed it out when they went through teams' biggest issues coming out of free agency, and they highlighted the Vikings' lack of depth along the defensive line. They wrote, "One year after Kwesi Adofo-Mensah spent heavily in free agency to add four veteran linemen across offense and defense, just one is left.
Ryan Kelly retired on the offensive side of the ball, while veteran defensive tackles Javon Hargrave and Jonathan Allen were both one-and-done in Minnesota. Reports have also suggested that the Vikings might listen to offers on star edge rusher Jonathan Greenard to alleviate cap concerns, although he remains on the roster at the moment. " The team was not a big spender in free agency, on starters or even depth players, as they seem to be looking at the NFL Draft for answers.
The team has nine picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, they should seemingly be invested in the defensive line during those three days, but what will the quality be? Time will tell, but this coaching staff should at least let fans be somewhat excited about the idea of Brian Flores getting another piece of clay to mold.
