The New York Giants have been named a "perfect fit" for free agent running back Najee Harris.

The New York Giants have been highlighted as the " perfect fit " for free agent running back Najee Harris in recent NFL offseason analysis. Harris, a former first-round pick who spent his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, amassing over 1,000 rushing yards annually and earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2021, joined the Los Angeles Chargers last year. His tenure there was cut short by a torn Achilles suffered early in the season, following an initial eye injury in training camp.

Before the injury, he showed flashes of promise in the Greg Roman-coordinated offense. From Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News : Harris was showing some promise in the Greg Roman offense before he went down in his lone season with the Chargers. Roman now works for the Giants, where they need some power contingency for Cam Skattebo.

With Roman now on the Giants' staff, the reunion could provide Harris with an ideal schematic match. Skattebo is coming off a very serious injury, leaving the backfield needing reliable depth and power elements despite Devin Singletary accepting a pay cut to stay, and Tyrone Tracy Jr. already on the roster.

The Giants have been exploring running back options in free agency to bolster their ground game, and are rumored to have significant interest in Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love ahead of the 2026 NFL draft. At 28, a healthy Harris would offer proven production, receiving skills, and durability from his Steelers days. A short-term deal could benefit both sides as he proves his recovery.
