Montreal Win Creates A Three-Way Tie For First In The PWHL
Three teams now sit locked at 39 points through 20 games of the PWHL season. Hitting the two-thirds mark of the season, the race for first is nearly as fierce as the fight for the final playoff spot.
Laura Stacey led the way with three points, including two goals for the Montreal Victoire who beat the Seatle Torrent 4-1 in front of 10,033 fans at Place Bell. Catherine Dubois opened the scoring for Montreal in the second period when she banged home a puck that was sent cross-crease by Stacey. Stacey's first goal of the game was a highlight reel marker as she walked in short handed before cutting across the crease and roofing her jailbreak marker over a sprawling Hannah Murphy.
Alex Carpenter pulled Seattle within one taking a feed from Theresa Schafzahl who was in her first game in a Torrent jersey. Schafzahl was acquired earlier this week from Boston in exchange for Jessie Eldridge. Montreal would answer however with Skylar Irving tipping home a Kati Tabin shot.
Stacey closed out the scoring with an empty netter. The win was Montreal's fist back following a late game collapse against Boston. โI think it was in all of our heads.
I think we weren't satisfied. It was a pretty devastating loss for us, but we all said it's better it happens now than later in the season," said Stacey. "We learned from it, and I think that's exactly what we did.
