Could Mark Davis be preparing to sell his majority share of the Raiders? The owners will vote on a Las Vegas succession plan at the league meeting.

It's probably hard for many Raiders fans to imagine an owner of the team not in the Davis family line. But that's what Mark Davis is preparing for the possibility of right now. According to a report from ESPN, NFL owners will vote at the upcoming league meetings whether to allow Raiders owner to set up a succession plan that gives Silver Lake co-chief executive officer Egon Durban the option to purchase a majority stake in the team.

The report stipulates the the Mark Davis doesn't currently have plan to sell his majority share in the team, but approval would open the door to that possibility, if and when he decides to step down from his post. Also up for a vote will be Davis selling roughly 7% of the team to Durban and another limited partner, Michael Meldman. Mark Davis took over ownership of the team back in 2011 after the death of his father, the legendary Al Davis.

Mark is now 71 years old, so it would be smart to ensure the franchise is in good hands in the event of his passing. He doesn't have any children and he is an only child. This article originally appeared on Raiders Wire: Report: Owners to vote on Mark Davis ability to sell ownership stake
