High Point secured its first-ever win in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament on Thursday, upsetting the No. 5-seed Wisconsin Badgers in Portland, Oregon. Rob Martin produced 23 points and 10 assists, Terry Anderson tallied 15 points and 11 assists and Chase Johnston added 14 points to lead the 12th-seeded Panthers to the 83-82 victory in the first round of the West Region at the Moda Center.
Johnston converted the go-ahead layup with 11. 7 seconds left in regulation for his first 2-point basket of the season. Following a timeout, Panthers forward Owen Aquino blocked a layup attempt by Nick Boyd, and the team corralled the rebound with 1.

The Panthers went 15-1 during conference play, suffering their only loss to Winthrop, who they beat in the title game on March 8.
The Panthers returned to the NCAA Tournament under first-year head coach Flynn Clayman, who was promoted last year after Alan Huss left for Creighton. Clayman first joined the program in 2023 as an associate head coach under Huss. High Point registered the first major upset of the NCAA Tournament in the opening round with its victory over Wisconsin.
