12 seed to upset a 5 when they knocked off Wisconsin, 83-82, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Portland, Ore on a breakaway transition basket by Chase Johnston in the final seconds. Amazingly, it was Johnston’s first 2-point basket of the season. After the game, head coach Flynn Clayman took the opportunity to call out his team’s critics in an interview with Jared Greenberg.
“It looks obvious high-majors need to play mid-majors during the season,” he said . “They said we didn’t play nobody. … Nobody would play us, just like they wouldn’t play Miami (Ohio).
But they have to play us in this tournament. ” Speaking to his players in the locker room after the game, Clayman added: “That’s what we came here for. We didn’t come here to just win one, we came here to win six.
