In Women’s March Madness, Maryland’s Yarden Garzon plays with heart in Israel
As the war continues in the Middle East, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Garzon to be away from her family.
CHAPEL HILL, N. C. – Maryland senior guard Yarden Garzon has more than the Women's NCAA Tournament on her mind as the No.
5-seeded Terrapins prepare to face the Murray State Racers on Friday afternoon (3 p. m. ET, ESPNU).
Garzon, a transfer from Indiana, has been a significant addition in her first season with Maryland. She earned third-team All-Big Ten honors, averaging 12. 7 points per game and leading the team with 87 3-pointers made.
Despite this March Madness being her last taste of college basketball, Garzon can’t help but think about her family back home. Growing up in Ra’anana, Israel, just over 10 miles north of Tel Aviv, Garzon wanted to be a basketball player at a young age. She chose to attend college in the United States to pursue her dream, leaving behind her family in Israel.
