5 starter to start the year. Suarez threw 43 pitches in his first World Baseball Classic start and 51 pitches in his second start. He is not fully built up yet, and the Red Sox will slot him in for their fifth game as a result, according to Alex Cora, per Chris Cotillo.
"Cora said Ranger Suarez will likely be the No. 5 starter the first time through the rotation because his buildup is behind the others," Cotillo wrote on X on Thursday. "With off days, that can be manipulated.
But don't expect him to pitch in Cincinnati. " Suarez figures to slot in right behind Crochet when he is built up. Two of the final three spots will belong to Sonny Gray and Brayan Bello.
