Eagles take a chance on former rookie sensation looking to rebound

The Eagles add former rookie sensation.

The Eagles have signed running back Dameon Pierce to a one-year deal, the team announced on Thursday. Pierce has struggled since his rookie season in 2022, but that year was memorable. He finished with 939 rushing yards and four touchdowns, averaging 4.

3 yards per carry. But for some reason, he has been unable to replicate that success. Over the last three years, the 5-10, 215-pound running back has only rushed for 745 total yards and four touchdowns.

Pierce was waived by the Texans this past November and finished out the 2025 season on the Chiefs. He finished with a career-low 36 rushing yards in his fourth season. During training camp this summer, Pierce will compete for a roster spot.

Heโ€™s more likely to not make the roster than he is to make it. It will be especially difficult if the Eagles draft another running back or sign a talented undrafted free agent after Aprilโ€™s draft. Pierce could lose out to third-year running Will Shipley and a player not on the roster yet.
