Amazin' food to be found at Citi Field as the Mets get ready for a new season
With Opening Day just a week away, Citi Field is getting ready to welcome Mets fans back. Not just for baseball, but for what has become one of the ballpark's biggest draws: the food. For the third straight year, Citi Field has been voted the best stadium food in Major League Baseball, and the Mets are aiming to make it four in a row.
This season, fans will find more than three dozen new menu items throughout the ballpark when the Mets open at home. Among the highlights is a new "legacy barbecue" honoring Mets legend Mookie Wilson, featuring slowsmoked meats prepared at low temperatures to lock in flavor. Ballpark chefs say choosing a single standout item is nearly impossible given the variety.
In addition to savory options, dessert lovers will have plenty to choose from. Ten new desserts are being introduced this season, including grabandgo items like the Mr. Met chocolate whoopie pie.
Fans can also try apple pie nachos - a twist on the classic dessert served nachostyle - and cookieandcream egg rolls. One of the most eyecatching additions is a massive 36ounce, 45day dryaged tomahawk steak from Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors, branded with the Mets logo and designed for sharing - or for fans with a very big appetite. For those looking for plantbased options, Citi Field continues to expand its vegan menu, including empanadas that impressed even longtime meateaters during preseason tastings.
Sweettooth fans can also indulge in Oreo churros, another new favorite. With spring in the air and baseball right around the corner, Citi Field is once again positioning itself as a destination where fans can enjoy sunshine, Mets baseball, and one of the most celebrated food lineups in the sport. Opening Day at Citi Field is next week, and if early tastings are any indication, fans may want to arrive hungry.
