Duke assistant coach Evan Bradds is set to take the head coaching job at his alma mater, Belmont, following the season.

Jon Scheyer will be looking for a new assistant this offseason. Evan Bradds, who has served as an assistant coach for Duke this season, is set to take the head coaching position at Belmont, his alma mater, following the Blue Devils’ run in the NCAA Tournament. Bradds is the Bruins’ all-time leading scorer, putting up 1,937 points during his esteemed career at the Nashville university from 2013-17.

He was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in both 2015-16 and 2016-17. The 31-year-old Bradds quickly transitioned to coaching, starting his career with the Maine Red Claws, the Boston Celtics’ G League affiliate, before working for four seasons with the Celtics under Brad Stevens. Bradds then spent three seasons with the Utah Jazz before Scheer brought him to Durham this past offseason.

Belmont won the Missouri Valley Conference this season, but was upset by Drake in the first round of the conference tournament. Casey Alexander, who spent the last seven seasons in charge of the Bruins, left after the season for the head coaching job at Kansas State.
