Packers adding former Patriots QB coach to offensive coaching staff
The Packers are adding former Patriots QB coach T.C. McCartney to the coaching staff.
The Green Bay Packers are adding former New England Patriots quarterbacks coach T. C. McCartney to the team's offensive coaching staff, per NFL reporter Jordan Schultz .
His role is defined as "offensive assistant," so the announcement of the finalized Packers coaching staff might be required to know his exact role. McCartney, 36, was most recently the Patriots quarterbacks coach in 2024, when he coached first-round pick Drake Maye during his rookie season. His paths crossed with current Packers defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington in New England in 2024.
But McCartney was not retained on staff by Mike Vrabel, and Maye took a giant leap forward in his second season as the Patriots starter. A collegiate quarterback at LSU (2007-10), McCartney entered the NFL coaching ranks in 2014 as a low-level assistant under then Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Cleveland. He then spent the 2015 as a quality control assistant with the 49ers before returning to San Francisco on Shanahan's first staff in 2017.
McCartney has been the quarterbacks coach for the Denver Broncos under Vic Fangio and offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello in 2019 and an assistant for Kevin Stefanski with the Browns for four seasons, including tight ends coach from 2022-23. From McCartney's bio from the Patriots: McCartney joins New England after spending the last four seasons with the Cleveland Browns (2020-23), first as an offensive assistant (2020-21) and then the last two seasons (2022-23) as the tight ends coach. Following his playing career as a quarterback at Louisiana State (2007-10), McCartney began his coaching career as a graduate assistant/offensive assistant coach with LSU in 2011.
