Bryson DeChambeau is once again off to a great start at a LIV Golf event. Just four days removed from winning LIV Golf Singapore , DeChambeau fired an 8-under 63 to finish the first round of LIV Golf South Africa tied for the lead with his Crushers GC teammate, Charles Howell III, who turned in a clean, bogey-free scorecard Thursday. DeChambeau made nine birdies to offset his lone bogey of the day, which came on the par-3 eighth hole at The Club at Steyn City in Midrand, South Africa โ a track designed by Jack Nicklaus that opened in 2014.
โI'm playing really good,โ DeChambeau said. โMy driver just got a little quirky today. I still feel like I'm playing really good, swinging it well.
Just going to go tighten it up a little bit. But yeah, for the most part I feel really comfortable with my game. " Meanwhile, there's some hometown flair at the top of the team leaderboard, as Southern Guards GC takes a one-shot lead into the second day.
The team is made up entirely of South African pros: Louis Oosthuizen, Dean Burmester, Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace, who led the way with a 64. The quartet is enjoying their first taste of home cooking, as this is LIV Golf's inaugural event in South Africa. โIt's amazing,โ Grace said.
