The Bucs created salary cap space by restructuring Luke Goedeke's contract.

Last year before the start of the season, the Bucs and general manager Jason Licht were active in extending players. They got new contracts for two key young players in cornerback Zyon McCollum and offensive tackle Luke Goedeke. The deal was reported by Ian Rapaport of NFL Media ,ย and he shared the details as being for four years, $90 million, with $50 million being guaranteed.

Goedeke joined the Bucs after being drafted in the second round out of Central Michigan in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was a piece that the team worked to develop, and he turned into a franchise piece along the offensive line opposite Tristan Wirfs on the left side. However, not even a full year into that new contract, Luke Goedeke is signing a restructuring of that deal.

Spotrac's Michael Ginnitti shared the details of it on social media, writing, they had "converted Luke Goedeke's $20M roster bonus into signing bonus, clearing $15. 2M of 2026 cap space. " The Bucs clearing cap space is always an interesting move, especially considering they are already well into free agency and not many splash moves are left to be made.

Time will tell if this was a small move before a big move, but here we are. This article originally appeared on Bucs Wire: Bucs make more cap space following restructure with Luke Goedeke
