When he took over the Red Sox in late 2023, he inherited a starting rotation without a legitimate ace. Since then, he's completely overhauled Boston's rotation, acquiring multiple All-Star hurlers in the process. After trading for Garrett Crochet last winter, he traded for Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo this offseason.
He also signed Ranger Suarez in January, building one of Boston's best rotations in recent memory. That's reflected in The Athletic's annual ace rankings , which were published on Thursday (subscription required). The Red Sox have three starting pitchers in this year's top 50: Gray (43), Suarez (32) and Crochet (3).
