After working as an advisor in the St. Louis Cardinals' front office over the last two seasons, Bloom is about to begin his first season as their president of baseball operations. It's his second crack at running a baseball ops department after leading the Boston Red Sox 's for nearly four years.
Bloom's Red Sox tenure, which spanned from October 2019 to September 2023, had its share of highs and lows. On the one hand, Bloom built one of the best farm systems in baseball along with a team that reached the 2021 ALCS. On the other hand, he oversaw three last-place finishes in four seasons.
While Bloom has turned the page and is ready for the next chapter of his career, he took a minute to reflect on his Boston years and what he learned from them. "Well, first of all, I am really grateful for that experience. It was a special role to hold, a special period of my life and my career, and I am proud of the work," Bloom told Tyler Kepner of The Athletic (subscription required).
