One of the biggest recent moves was extending Jesús Luzardo. “The Philadelphia Phillies locked in Jesus Luzardo a year before he was due to reach free agency by agreeing with the left-hander on a five-year contract extension. The deal is worth $135 million, sources told ESPN on Monday, and runs through the 2031 season, with a club option for 2032,” ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote.
With Luzardo’s extension, there are several takeaways—one being that Alec Bohm’s future in Philadelphia is likely coming to an end. “You won't find a single Phillies fan complaining when Bohm signs elsewhere next winter, but Luzardo's extension does dramatically decrease whatever odds remain of a long-term union with the former All-Star (seriously! ) third baseman.
Bohm fell off a bit last season, but he put together consecutive 97-RBI campaigns in 2023 and 2024; he deserves a bit of slack. Of course, it'd be nice if Bohm could pull and elevate a few more hits over the wall, but his ability to generate consistent contact in the cleanup spot is helpful,” FanSided’s Christopher Kline wrote. Another Phillies player who could be on the way out is fan favorite Bryson Stott.
