New renders of £70m Madrid Grand Prix circuit released ahead of 2026 F1 debut

New renderings of the Spanish Grand Prix track in Madrid have been released with just six months to go until the Spanish capital street circuit hosts its first F1 race. F1 announced two years ago that it has agreed a 10-year deal with Madrid to host an F1 race, with the city becoming the new home of the Spanish Grand Prix. The event’s traditional home on the outskirts of Barcelona will instead host the Barcelona-Catalyna GP once every two years, starting this year.

Madrid hosts its first race on 11-13 September, with the circuit using public roads, though around 75% of the track will be purpose-built. It has cost in the region of £70m to build. 5km in length, which is about par for a track on the current calendar. It is situated near Madrid’s Barajas airport and should be easily accessible via public transport. Organisers state that 70% of tickets have already been sold.

“We continue to meet each of our major milestones on schedule, and day-to-day there is a real buzz around the IFEMA Madrid as we continue to build a world-class, long-term home for Formula 1 in Spain at the Madring,” said Luis Garcia Abad, general manager of the circuit. “Work is still scheduled to be completed in the next few months as planned, at which point we will be ready to stage a test event and go through all the final checks with Formula 1 and the FIA ahead of the race in September. ” Williams driver Carlos Sainz is an ambassador for the race, F1’s first new event since the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
