Multiple Coastal Bend athletes captured state powerlifting titles to open the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state meet in Edinburg.

Multiple Coastal Bend athletes captured state powerlifting titles in the Class 1A-2A state championships Wednesday at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state meet in Edinburg. Woodsboro’s Sidney Castillo claimed a state championship in the 181-pound weight class and Agua Dulce’s Bailey Austin captured gold in the 220-pound division. Freer’s Treycie Lerma added another gold medal with a first-place finish in the 242-pound class.

2025 RECAP: San Diego, Robstown, Alice, Beeville girls capture state powerlifting titles Agua Dulce also finished sixth as a team with a team-score of nine points. Other Coastal Bend athletes also medaled with Three Rivers’ Melia Hinojosa finishing second in the 105-pound division and teammate Kenley Gilbreath placing third in the 97. Riviera’s Nevaeh Suarez placed third in the 132-pound weight class and teammate Jesaeh Suarez added a third-place finish in the 148 class.
