O’Gorman claims third-straight Class ‘AA’ state title
SIOUX FALLS, S. D. (KELO) — O’Gorman Knights girls basketball won its third straight Class AA state title over the weekend, marking the first three-peat in Class ‘AA’ girls hoops since Roosevelt’s five peat in 2001.
O’Gorman fell to Brandon Valley 63-54 on December 11, snapping the Knights 50-game win streak to begin the 2025-26 season. The loss marked an awakening for O’Gorman that led them to a state title win over the Lynx just three months later. “It showed us that we need to be ready to play every single game as hard as we can because I think we could all agree that we didn’t play to the best of our ability that game, and didn’t play as hard as we could,” junior Ruby Moore said.
“I think it just pushed us to be ready every single game. ” The Knights came ready to face the 23-0 Lynx, led by senior Sydney Terveen who fought her way through foul trouble to score a game high 33 points and six rebounds. “I feel like my shots were just falling and then obviously my teammates being open and getting me some passes too all just fell together,” Terveen said.
“I think I held up a three or something, something I’ve never done, I was just so excited for her,” Moore said. “That’s the fun part of basketball. It’s not always your own accomplishments but just being happy for your other teammates is one of the best things.
” The winter weather conditions inconvenienced the Knights travel home, but allowed them some extra time to enjoy what they accomplished with everyone who helped make it possible. “We all jumped in the pool and then we just hung out the rest of the night,” Terveen said. “We all stayed in one room together so it was just fun to finish off the year all together.
