Celtics roll Warriors 120-99 behind Jaylen Brown's historic night
The Boston Celtics completed their first season sweep of the Golden State Warriors since 2021 on Wednesday night.
BOSTON — Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown cemented his place in history on Wednesday night, passing Celtics greats Jo Jo White and Dave Cowens to become the tenth leading scorer in franchise history during a 120-99 win over the Golden State Warriors. Brown finished with 32 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists in the blowout victory. Two free throws in the second quarter helped him enter the top 10 and two free throws in the fourth quarter drew "MVP" chants from the congratulatory TD Garden crowd.
Fellow Celtics star Jayson Tatum also put up an impressive performance, tallying 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists in 31 minutes of play. As for the Warriors, they were once again undermanned without 4-time NBA champion Stephen Curry, as he remains out with a knee injury. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said the team would provide an update on his health on Saturday.
The Dubs had seven different scorers in double figures, but nobody scored more for them than guard Gary Payton II, who recorded 14 points off the bench. Altogether, the Warriors shot just 23% from deep and although they enjoyed the homecoming of former Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis his 11 points and rebounds weren't enough to outdo the C's. Boston is now an impressive 46-23 overall with just 13 games remaining in the regular season.
Up next for them are the struggling Memphis Grizzlies who've lost 8 games in a row. They'll square off at the FedExForum — where the Celtics haven't lost in 5 years — on Sunday night. Listen to "Havlicek Stole the Pod" on: Blue Wire: https://tiny.
