Arizona fan favorite WR signs up to play for failed ex-Cardinals OC
Former Arizona wide receiver Greg Dortch has signed with the Detroit Lions, whose offensive coordinator is former Cardinals OC Drew Petzing.
Former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Greg Dortch has signed with the Detroit Lions and will play under their new offensive coordinator, Drew Petzing. Petzing was the offensive coordinator and playcaller for the Cardinals from 2023-25. Under Petzing, the Cardinals finished with the 24th-ranked scoring offense in 2023, the 12th-ranked scoring offense in 2024 and the 23rd-ranked scoring offense in 2025.
Petzing was not in the mix to be brought back by the Cardinals for the 2026 season, and the team replaced him with offensive playcaller/head coach Mike LaFleur and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Dortch had his career-best season statistically in 2022, the season before Petzing's arrival. That season, Dortch grabbed 52 passes and totaled 511 scrimmage yards (receiving plus rushing).
He became a favorite among the fan base quickly, replacing injured receiver Rondale Moore for the season's first three games. Dortch had 20 catches for 198 receiving yards in those three games. Under Petzing, Dortch's best season was 2024 (37 receptions, 373 scrimmage yards).
This transaction comes after the Cardinals signed a new No. 3 wide receiver early in the 2026 NFL free agency period, Kendrick Bourne, who played for the San Francisco 49ers in 2025. Dortch figures to compete for No.
