Michigan football's Bryce Underwood has 'sky's the limit' potential

Michigan football coach Kyle Whittingham says quarterback Bryce Underwood's ceiling is 'way up there' as he refines his game.

Usually, true freshmen aren't thrust into the starting quarterback position in college football, but such was the case for Bryce Underwood with Michigan football a year ago. And he had moments where he showcased his talent and why he was the No. 1 overall recruit in the country, but he also showed that he was an inexperienced true freshman, at times.

Head coach Kyle Whittingham already noted that Underwood will be the starter this season, reprising his role from last year. And though rival fans feign celebration, if Michigan can get the most out of Underwood, then those rival teams ought to beware. Whittingham shared more on the latest In the Trenches podcast.

"Bryce's ceiling is tough to measure. It's up there. It's way up there," Whittingham said.

"He was thrust into a starting role last year. I guess he had just barely turned 18 years old when he was the starting quarterback at a big-time Power Four school, and so I thought he performed pretty good given the circumstances. " So what does maximizing his potential look like?
