After the United States lost, players were presented with silver medals, honoring their second-place finish. Commissioner Rob Manfred presented the medals, but some players took off their medals almost immediately. , Roman Anthony and Gabe Speier all removed their silver medals before reaching the dugout. It does not seem like that big of a deal, but players are being criticized on social media because of it. "Winning first place is best thing you can do when you don't want to wear second place medals," one fan wrote on X.
While some fans pointed out that the United States should have simply won if they did not want to be presented with silver medals, others pointed out character flaws, noting that the actions of those few players represented Americans as a whole.
