New Headline: Time's Up for Less Playtime!
Future in Doubt: PSG Star Frustrated By Lack of Playing Time Lucas Chevalier has not started for Paris Saint-Germain since last January, and frustration is beginning to set in for the 24-year-old goalkeeper. According to L’Equipe , several clubs have inquired about Chevalier, whose future in the French capital is very much in doubt. Chevalier arrived at PSG last summer following a €40 million transfer from Lille OSC.
He was immediately thrust into the spotlight and struggled to maintain consistency. That led Luis Enrique to make the difficult decision to bench the promising young goalkeeper in favor of Matvey Safonov. Since the manager made the switch at goalkeeper, Safonov has impressed, including keeping a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge in the UEFA Champions League most recently.
Despite Safonov’s solid play, L’Equipe reports that the 27-year-old goalkeeper is not in PSG’s long-term plans. With both goalkeepers seemingly on their way out of the club, PSG will likely be active in the transfer window to sign a goalkeeper. Chevalier needs to be a starting goalkeeper if he has any hope of becoming France’s unquestioned starting goalkeeper in future tournaments.
This season has been a step back for him, and it’s understandable that he wants to find a club that can guarantee him a starting role. For this reason, clubs are contacting PSG to see what it would take to sign Chevalier.
