Rutgers Dominates Monmouth, Seals Victory 13-0 in Classic Showdown!
Rutgers baseball earns its fourth run rule victory of the season 13-3 over Monmouth.
After beating Michigan State two games to one in their opening conference series this past weekend, Rutgers baseball dominated Monmouth from start to finish in their midweek matchup, earning a 13-3 run-rule victory. The Hawks pitchers struggled against the Scarlet Knight batters, as Rutgers recorded 13 runs on 10 total hits along with 7 walks. Peyton Bonds finished the game with a home run and recorded four RBI’s, while Charlie Meglio recorded a two-run homer.
Chase Krewson, Ryan Jaros, Trey Wells, and Quinten Perilli finished the game with two runs apiece. Rutgers only needed to use two pitchers in this game, as Jacob Peterson pitched five shutout innings with 6 strikeouts and no walks to earn his second win of the season. The Knights rushed out to a 5-run lead before Monmouth was able to add their only three runs of the day in the third inning.
Meglio was the one who got the party started in the first inning with his two-run homer to put Monmouth in a hole early. From then on, Rutgers would score three in the second inning, one in the third, two in the sixth, before ending the game early in the seventh with five more runs. Krewson singled in one, Bonds and Juluis Rosado earned a bases-loaded walk each, while Yomar Carreras and Wells both batted in one to end the game.
Up next, Rutgers baseball will hit the road to take on Illinois this Friday at 7 pm for its first road conference series of the season.
