Redshirt junior quarterback Ryan Staub committed to Tennessee on Jan. 18. He transferred to the Vols from Colorado .
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound signal caller appeared in 10 games for the Buffaloes from 2023-25. Staub completed 53-of-98 passing attempts for 681 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. He also totaled eight rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on 33 rushing attempts.
Following Tennessee's second spring football practice on Tuesday, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Joey Halzle discussed what he saw in Staub at Colorado and what he brings to the Vols' quarterback room. "Ryan's a guy that, if you looked at the plays that he made, he did a really good job at extending plays," Halzle said. "He does a good job improving.
Like we talked about with Faizon (Brandon) and George (MacIntyre), as far as anticipating, that guy throws windows at a really high level. He shops windows, he feels timing, he understands all that, so he has a really good feel for the game. "He's a highly intelligent kid, like you can put the offense on him and let him go, you know what I mean, and he'll be okay in it.
