Expert opinion: Senegal will fight to the end for its CAN 2025 crown Exclusive Senegal will fight to the end for its CAN 2025 crown Sénégal/@caf The Confederation of African Football (CAF) now finds itself in an especially tricky situation after the appeals committee decided to strip the CAN 2025 trophy from Senegal and award it to Morocco. In a statement published on its official website, Africa’s football governing body declared Senegal the loser by forfeit (3-0), interpreting the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2025) regulations in its own way. To comment on this stunning decision, “Foot Africa” spoke with Senegalese journalist Papa Djibril Gaye, Sports Desk Chief at SOURCEA daily and editor of SCORE 221 Magazine, who did not hesitate to voice his outrage.
This is truly scandalous. And it’s a shame that, once again, Africa is becoming the laughingstock of the world. We’re being slandered and insulted everywhere because our leaders are not up to the task.
It’s deeply regrettable. At a time when some nations are building strong squads capable of competing with top European, American, and South American teams, our leaders refuse to take responsibility and help African football grow and progress. On the contrary, they are bringing shame upon it.
Excuse my language, but this is a huge disgrace. And unfortunately, I saw this coming. Just a few days ago, the head of the refereeing commission made a disastrous statement, claiming they had received instructions not to show yellow cards to Senegalese players who left the field.
