The million-dollar question after the Miami Dolphins traded wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos on Tuesday immediately became what it means for De’Von Achane. Teams who have inquired about the Dolphins’ speedy star running back have reportedly gotten a definitive answer. The Dolphins are telling other teams Achane is not available in a trade, according to an ESPN report Wednesday morning.

Achane was Miami’s lone Pro Bowl selection in 2025 and was voted by local media as the team’s MVP last season. He had 1,350 rushing yards, 488 receiving yards and 12 total touchdowns in 2025. The third-round pick in 2023 is entering the fourth and final year on his rookie contract, so he is eligible for a contract extension.

New Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan indicated, when speaking at the NFL scouting combine weeks ago, he’s interested in negotiating with Achane to keep him in Miami long term, but that would come later in the offseason. When Sullivan did his first interview as Dolphins GM , with the team’s in-house media, he listed Achane among players he views as building blocks for the franchise, along with linebacker Jordyn Brooks and offensive linemen Patrick Paul and Aaron Brewer. Waddle was notably excluded from players he named unprompted.

In three NFL seasons, Achane has maintained a whopping 5. 6 rushing average, which ranks No. 1 among rushers since the merger in 1970 with at least 500 attempts.

He has 544 carries for 3,057 yards in his career. His 1,350 rushing yards in 2025 rank third among Dolphins single-season totals, behind Ricky Williams’ 2002 and 2003 campaigns. With 1,838 scrimmage yards last year, that’s No.
