In 2022, the NCAA women’s basketball tournament adopted March Madness as its own and expanded to include 68 teams. The addition of the First Four round hasn’t proven to be all that fruitful for its participants — only No. 11 Mississippi State managed to win its subsequent game in the round of 64 in 2023 — but if nothing else, it provides an opportunity to gather some momentum.
