Clemson Cubs Triumph Over Rivals in Softball's Top Rankings
Clemson won another weekend series in ACC play, but did coach John Rittman's Tigers rise in Tuesday's new Softball Coaches Poll? See the full top 25.
For the second straight week, Clemson softball came within one run of sweeping a weekend series against an ACC foe. Coach John Rittman's Tigers (19-9 overall, 4-2 conference) won the first two games of their weekend series against Louisville before falling 7-6 in Sunday's series finale. It was the second weekend in a row Clemson went up 2-0 in a series before dropping the finale after taking two of three from Georgia Tech a week earlier.
Unfortunately, the Tigers' second straight series win in ACC play didn't benefit their standing in the new NFCA/GoRout Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll . Despite a 3-1 week, Clemson fell one spot to No. 25 in Tuesday's new rankings.
The Tigers are ranked one spot below No. 24 UCF and are four spots below rival South Carolina at No. 21.
For the third consecutive week, five teams from the ACC landed in the top 25 rankings. Florida State (25-4) remains the highest-ranked of the ACC teams at No. 8 following a 4-0 week.
