New Commanders WR Van Jefferson is ready to get to work with Jayden Daniels and the rest of his new teammates.

Wide receiver Van Jefferson said the right things at his welcome-to- Washington press conference on Tuesday. Jefferson exhibited a mature attitude, understanding that no one owes him anything in his professional life. On his own, Jefferson volunteered that he feels he is "a reliable target.

" Elaborating further, he offered, "First, I have to earn the trust of the coaches, earn the trust of ( Commanders QB) Jayden (Daniels), and earn the trust of my teammates before any of that can happen. I just want to come in and use my expertise and my strengths and do what I do since I've been in the league. " Jefferson entered the league after being a major part of the high-scoring Florida Gators' 2019 offense.

The Gators were led by quarterback Kyle Trask, passing for 2. 921 yards, after he replaced QB Feleipe Franks, who broke his leg. Dan Mullen's offense took off with Trask throwing to such future NFL receivers as Jefferson, tight end Kyle Pitts, and wide receiver Freddie Swain.

"But like I said, there are stepping stones to that. I am not going to get all of that in one day. I just got to be where my feet are and take it one day at a time.
