COLUMBIA – The South Carolina baseball team fell, 11-8, to Charlotte on Tuesday night (March 17) at Founders Park. The Gamecock offense struck first in the third after back-to-back singles set up Will Craddock’s three-run homer. KJ Scobey added to the lead with a double down the left field line to score Talmadge LeCroy and give Carolina the 4-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, Charlotte scored a pair of runs on a sacrifice fly and RBI single. Tyler Bak tripled and scored on Dawson Harman’s infield single in the bottom of the fourth. The 49ers notched a seven-run inning in the fifth to take a four-run lead over Carolina, 9-5, capped by a Todd Hudson grand slam.
The Gamecocks scored three runs in the sixth, but Charlotte put up unearned runs in both the eighth and ninth innings to take the three-run win. Craddock was 3-for-5 with three RBI for Carolina while Bak had two hits. Riley Goodman took the loss, allowing an earned run in two-thirds of an inning.
POSTGAME NOTES The Gamecocks had nine hits, but walked 11, hit two and had five errors. Craddock is now tied for the team lead with five home runs. Carolina added three more doubles and are up to 53 on the season.
