Punxsutawney's 2023 Groundhog Day Prediction Fails to Predict Anything But Disaster

The first trip to the National Invitational Tournament in the Division I era for the St. Thomas men’s basketball ended abruptly. The Tommies (24-10) lost 67-52 to Seattle University (21-13) on Tuesday at the Redhawks’ Arena in Seattle in the first round of the NIT.

Nolan Minessale led St. Thomas with 15 points. Nick Janowski scored 10 points, while Isaiah Johnson-Arigu had 12 points off the bench.

St. Thomas had a strong first half, leading by as many as 10 points before going into halftime with a 31-30 advantage. The Tommies scored the first six points of the second half before Seattle started to control play.

The Redhawks went on a 15-2 run to take the lead. Seattle next faces top seed Auburn, which beat South Alabama 78-67.
