Pewamo-Westphalia Dominates, Secures Championship 70-64 Win!
Pirates advance to state semifinals for the first time since 2019 with 55-33 win.
MILLINGTON — The strong winter for Pewamo-Westphalia has continued. Led by Elly Bengel and Adrianna Eklund, the P-W girls basketball team advanced to the state semifinals with a 55-33 victory over Cass City in a Division 3 quarterfinal on Tuesday, March 17, at Millington High School. The semifinal appearance is the first for P-W since it finished as the state champion in 2019.
Bengel and Eklund finished with a team-best 10 points, while Peyton Eklund added nine points for P-W (25-2). The win sends the Pirates to a Division 3 state semifinal at noon Thursday, March 19 where they will face Roscommon at Breslin Center. The win adds to a strong winter for P-W, which had its boys basketball team win a state championship on Saturday, March 14 at Breslin Center and its competitive cheer squad also capture a state title.
