Trying to build momentum off Saturday’s win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, Brandon Bussi struggled in his third consecutive loss.

The Blue Jackets outshot the Canes 29 to 27. Carolina had only 1 power play while Columbus stacked up five. After a strong start for the Canes, Seth Jarvis was called for a double minor after replay review showed a high sticking on Columbus’ Zach Werenski.

It didn’t take long for the Blue Jackets to capitalize, with Mason Marchment beating Brandon Bussi from the slot to take a 1-0 lead. Charlie Coyle added Columbus’ second power play goal of the game on a pass from Adam Fantilli with less than a minute remaining in the first period. The Blue Jackets outshot the Canes 11-6 in the first 20 minutes, and heading into the second, Carolina found themselves down 2-0.
