MIAMI โ€” The World Baseball Classic championship game Tuesday night is not only for national pride, but a whole lot of money, too. The winning team will receive a $2. 5 million bonus by the WBC, giving the United States or Venezuela a total payout of $6.

75 million for the tournament, two people with knowledge of the payouts confirmed to USA TODAY Sports. Half of the money goes to each country's respective baseball federation with the rest split among players and staff. Whoever loses Tuesday has already been guaranteed $4.

25 million, but wonโ€™t receive any additional money. So, with the players and staff members from the winning team splitting a total of about $3. 35 million, it will provide each player and coach about $83,750, which would be less depending on how much is awarded to staff members, trainers, clubhouse attendants and scouts.

Each of the 20 teams participating in the WBC received $750,000, but there were bonuses depending on how far each team advanced. Team USA and Venezuela each received a $1 million bonus for advancing out of pool play, $1. 25 million for winning their quarterfinal games, $1.

25 million for winning their semifinal games, with the winner Tuesday night receiving another $2. 5 million. The prize money was predetermined before the start of the WBC based on projected revenues in a joint deal with MLB and the players union.
